LOLLYGAG QUILT: KONA SOLIDS

April 21, 2020

This quilt was the first quilt I designed and the reason I decided to start this business journey. The inspiration for this quilt came from one of my daughter’s dresses! She changes dresses at least 4 times a day. I think she was on her 2nd or 3rd dress change when inspiration struck for this quilt pattern.

Lollygag can be purchased in the Yellow Umbrella Quilts store as a PDF here.

I decided on using Kona Solids because I just love the look of an all solids quilt. These are the colors I used:

  • Blueprint
  • Watermelon
  • Duckling
  • Key Lime
  • Pool
  • Magenta

I really enjoyed making this quilt because it was super fast and incredibly easy! I find quilting to be much more fun if chain sewing is involved. A quilter could most likely get this quilt done in a weekend!

For the backing fabric, I used Good Vibes Only Paper Echoes Sassafras Lane Designs for Windham Fabrics. I searched and searched for the perfect backing fabric to coordinate with the Kona Solids in the quilt. I happened upon this fabric line and fell in love! I hope to use Good Vibes Only in one of my next quilt patterns soon!

My mom owns a long arm quilting machine, so she helped me pick the perfect machine quilting pattern for Lollygag. I have yet to quilt a quilt on my sewing machine because it seems rather intimidating, and I’m sure it would take much longer than throwing it on the long arm. We buy most of out machine quilt patterns from Urban Elementz. The design we used on Lollygag was called Square Fold.
