LINCOLN LOGS: GINGHAM FARM BY RBD

August 23, 2020

Lincoln Logs was inspired by one of my friends I met while I was studying abroad in Spain. She and her husband found out they were expecting, and decorated their nursery in neutrals. It is an adorable Boho Chic style. I had been wanting to make a neutrals quilt, so what better way than to design a baby quilt! I had really enjoyed working on this pattern because it came together so quickly! A few weeks later, I was at Millie P’s Quilt Shop in Anoka when I happened upon RBD’s Gingham Farm line. I immediately fell in love with it and knew I wanted a queen sized Lincoln Logs for myself. So here we are!

Lincoln Logs can be purchased in the Yellow Umbrella Quilts shop.

I love fabric with words! This line had such a nice mix of patterns with plaids, words, sparrows, and x’s. The creamy greens paired with the black and cream fabrics just give it the perfect Farmhouse feel.

This summer I inherited my great great grandfather’s farm. It has been untouched for the last 15 years and has become quite overgrown. However, the barn is still standing, which made for a great photo op!

I love the simplicity of this pattern. I whipped it together pretty quickly, especially since I was able to chain sew all of the blocks!

Since the design of the quilt pattern and the fabric is fairly simple, I wanted to keep the quilting simple as well. I used my mom’s Tin Lizzie long arm quilting machine and stitched horizontal lines every 4 inches. The simplicity of the quilting helped reduce the stiffness that comes with tighter quilting designs.

The photo above is my favorite of the group because the focus point is the word family! My mom let me use her antique sewing machine that was manufactured in 1933. It was passed down to her from her cousin, June.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! – Psalm 133:1

I’m a sucker for word fabric, so of course I had to have it for backing. One can never go wrong with striped binding!

Below is the neutral baby quilt I made for my friend, Margaret. I quilted this baby quilt on the long arm as well, freehanding horizontal lines every 2 inches.

This quilt below was tested for me by Carolyn Schnapp. Would you believe me if I told you it only took her a week to get the quilt top done?!
